Goonchie’s Call #24
This week we look at the French revolution, yip that’s right French Top 14 is back and we have a small punt on the Boks in mendoza.
Last week the Pumas glided to victory to bring home our best bet, as expected. They proved way too strong for a struggling Griquas side.
Unfortunately our value Bet didn’t pull through, we picked the right horse just by the wrong margin. Wasn’t expecting such a comprehensive victory.
This week again, lots to choose from.
Pollard to wake up in Mendoza?
Best bet: South Africa (-7.5) 9/10
Boks lacked direct attack last week. We saw a lot of ball carriers running sideways and I think they will rectify it this weekend.
Rassie will be sure to drive this home because that’s also a mark of his coaching.
I know they are traveling and they don’t have home ground advantage but I just feel the spread of 7.5 is not enough.
Particularly if the Boks get off to a fast start, you will hear a very silent Argentinian compliment in the stands.
This will be the key. I know we are also dealing with the present but if we rewind the clocks a few years you would’ve welcomed a -7.5 spread for an SA Argentina game.
One thing to also consider is the amount of points Pollard left out there this last Saturday when kicking for poles and I’m also glad to see Mostert back even though Pieter Steph had a great game.
Value Bet: Racing 92 to beat Toulon 2.35/1
Clash of the French Titans in what promises to be a great game.
This match epitomizes deep pockets with both teams in the upper echelon of big bank accounts. Probably 2 of the richest rugby sides in the world.
That being said, these odds are swayed heavily in the favour of Toulon due to the home ground advantage which does count for a lot.
That being said, when Racing Metro click it’s near impossible to stop them.
Their off-loading game is second to none and they have some serious quality.
Those odds are too good to ignore and you’ll get a good run for your money at the very least.
