Recap Week #71
All Blacks v Wallabies
Ok so we got a treat, All Blacks v Wallabies up early on Saturday morning, I called a big minus here at twenty nine, a couple of disallowed tries. Beauden Barrett silencing the Mo’unga crowd, including yours truly. A simply spectacular performance. Unfortunately taking a couple of points too many as the All Blacks could only muster up a twenty eight point win.
Sure I lost but getting the All Blacks at a decent -17.5 at HT certainly made up for the issues.
Loss: 3 Units
Los Pumas v Springboks
This was a special game, I say that because as the weekend rolled on so this game looked better and better for me. Although I had lost my punts on Lions and All Blacks my weekend was not that bad, I pressed on Los Pumas on the plus which at GT had risen to +8.5 and I pressed on the 5/2 about the board.
I then was invited to be on Goodforthegames show on Saturday before the big game and sporting my Los Pumas shirt. At HT I was telling the world that it was #RaceOver and that the Bookies should #PuttheResultinandPaythePunters Los Pumas started so well, they never looked back.
I simply do not know why anyone was surprised that Los Pumas actually beat us. Some pundits seemed to think it was our worst time ever. From a Ranking perspective yes, but from a feel good factor, no way. Losing to los Pumas in Durban, the Japanese in the World Cup and Italy in Italy was by far the worst time the Boks had ever endured.
Not only did I win the bet, I collected yet another HT cap, I had called in and requested a price on SA, I was quoted 4/1. I asked 4/1 SA? I was told yes, I made them a 10/1 shot, and I then asked what the handicap was. At minus eleven I was a minus punter on Los Pumas.
Profit: 2.2 units
Lions v Griquas
Wow Friday night Currie Cup, my best!! Lions had a handicap early on at around thirteen, this soon moved out to twenty and some firms had bigger. I called a punt on the minus at a respectable twenty five at a decent price.
The punt lost, but again at HT the Lions were quoted at minus eighteen, I obviously took some of that!! What we witnessed on Friday night was a point’s buyers dream, over one hundred arrived.
Sure there was an intercept or two and a couple of dodgy kicks, but Wandisile Simelane was a treat to watch!! The Lions did not beat the twenty five, but I made enough on HT that I am not that concerned.
Loss: 5 units
Sharks v Bulls
I called this one spot on, a horrible second half, a plethora of knock ons and silly mistakes, but a decent result for anyone on the minus. This play was never in doubt, my only mistake, not climbing in.
The handicap moved swiftly from five to eight within a couple of days, it would prove not to be enough. I think the bookies thought the Cheetahs were decent. I warned everyone that the Cheetahs were not trying. So anyone who read anything into the Bulls ended up doing their money.
Again another HT play won, that was now four out of four, a clean sweep so to speak!!
I reclaimed some respect with this play. Well done Sharks!!
Profit: 5.4 units
I lost just 0.4 units on my plays, but the HT plays proved to be the key to what has now become known as my best weekend in the last twelve months. My wife is happy, I am happy and so are the boys!!
