I Guess the Rains Down in Africa
Final Whistle #39
As much as I hate misquoting one of the greatest 80’s bands, Toto, I just had to for this article. The rain was surely down in Africa last week as a thunderstorm of epic proportions saw the game between the Bulls and Western Province called off at half-time.
While it’s not often that you see a South African derby called off due to inclement weather, the real shock was that so many points were score – mainly courtesy of Western Province – in such atrocious conditions. There seems to be a bit of a revolution occurring in the Cape with this young Province side playing champagne rugby regardless of conditions.
Are you Brave?
Mitre 10 Playoff’s
The Mitre Cup also enters it’s semi-final stage this week and the two Premiership fixtures look to be absolute crackers with Tasman and Canterbury squaring off on Friday and Auckland and Wellington duking it out on Saturday. The two host teams head into the clashes as favourites but we could be in for an upset or two as Auckland have a penchant for choking at the exact wrong time and Canterbury are just so good at winning knock-out games.
If that’s not enough oval ball action, there’s also the second rounds of the European Challenge and Champions Cups to look forward to.
Here’s your lot for the weekend.
Western Province -18.5 v Bulls 9/10
Canterbury v Tasman 12/10
