And to the Northern Hemisphere
Goonchie’s Call #
Northern Hemisphere Internationals. Not a lot to choose from but enough.
The Millennium and Twickenham with the pick of the games for the weekend.
When these European fixtures roll around it’s always fascinating to see the South African influence. Players that have resurrected or rejuvenated their careers via a European lifeline. I do find it mildly amusing when watching a Willem Nel as a Scotland International, not exactly a proudly Scottish surname but nonetheless credit must go to these players for making the most of an opportunity.
South Africa +2.5 at 8/10
England’s injury woes have been well documented in the lead up. At loosehead prop they have issues with Vunipola and Genge injured. There’s no big ball carrying Billy Vunipola which I think they will miss against the Boks. Mercer looks set for a run which I believe may be premature especially against a super abrasive South African side.
The two elements against the boks is Twickenham and the fact we have no Willie Le Roux and Faf De Klerk. However we have the injection of Duane Vermeulen which will add big value. Our pack has come a long way since our last test series against England. I mention this because that’s usually England’s biggest weapon. Our physical presence in the tight exchanges will be the difference.
Wales 1 – 12 Win Margin at 16/10
Scotland have entered a new era and I believe they are a very different side to the one they were 5 years ago. They can attack with real purpose and score tries in test matches where as before they relied on a steady goal kicker and pressurizing defense never really winning matches by more than 4-7 points.
They will certainly miss Finn-Russel’s presence running the show but they will be competitive against Wales.
Wales have named a quality team and obviously carry home ground advantage. I see them winning the game by a margin of between 3-8 points.
