England v Japan
These Two have Only Met Once Before
England v Japan, a fixture we have only witnessed once before. In fact if you are younger than 35 years old, you probably did not even know it happened. In 1987 in Sydney Japan got done 60 – 7. 53pts. a lot has happened in 31 years!
Japan are not the Japan of old, they have strung together a couple of decent results. I do not need to remind you of the 2015 WC result v SA. Japan under the English Coach Eddie Jones took the Boks to task and beat them.
England to Pick a Weaker Team?
Most recently Japan have done OK, beating Georgia by 28 to Nil, losing to Italy and beating Italy. Last year this time Japan DREW with France, matching their hosts at 23pts a piece. In fact you have to go back a year and a half to see when last Japan got beaten by more than this handicap.
England are set to field a weaker team as they are playing Aussie next week. I reckon they do not need to bother. The handicap will be around ENG -11.5 and they will thump the Wallabies.
In the last 7 games Japan have managed to score 22pts or more. This bodes well for Japan and at current +30 levels they are most certainly within a chance of getting a plus.
Will Japan win the game? No I do not think so, unless you get Japan at some ridiculous price, like 20/1 or bigger, it’s just not worth it. Japan will have passion, England will just be motivated to win, and I honestly cannot see the English running away with this one.
I am expecting Japan to score at least 15pts, possibly even twenty. The question though is…will England get more than fifty. I say fifty, because in my opinion for England to beat this minus they will need to score at least fifty.
Kick off is scheduled for 17h00 GMT +2 on Saturday at Twickenham. The referee for this game will be Paul Williams (NZ), Click here for the Weather in London and if you want to follow the game on Twitter click here for the Hashtag #ENGvJAP
