End of Year Tours Final Week
I must start off with an apology, I have been really busy at work this week and did not really have the time to write long previews as I have been accustomed to writing. I have instead done one post covering all the games. This is fitting as I am spending a total of six units, just one unit on each game. I have unfortunately not done very well on these End of year Tours, I have decided to keep my plays small. It’s a bad run and we are just a few weeks ago from a decent break over Christmas.
Oracle Rugby will be shutting down after the Cape Town Sevens for the Christmas break. In the break I will be rebranding and rebuilding the website with loads of exciting stuff and will resume around late January before the 2019 Rugby Season starts again.
I will not be covering Pro 14 or Champions Cup during the break.
Italy v New Zealand
Italy v New Zealand, my gosh this is a hard one! Italy were rubbish, and arguably you could say the same for the All Blacks. The All Blacks should have won last week, maybe it’s been a long year? Maybe they are tired? Maybe Ireland are that good? These are questions I am not able to honestly answer.
This week the Bookies have given Italy a respectful +32.5 and although confidence is low, I do feel it’s the right way to go. As with ant game opposing New Zealand you will be sweating for the entire game, perhaps only the last twenty, but what is certain is that a sweat will be the order of the day.
Since I am spending one unit, I am out of the proverbial sweat box.
Call: Italy +32.5 at 9/10 for 1 unit
Scotland v Argentina
Scotland v Argentina is up on the weekend. This is always an exciting clash, because it is generally competitive. I expect the same this week. Sure Argentina got thumped last week. Scotland were extremely disappointing too. I expected so much more from the Scots.
Their decision making was poor, their finishing was poor, and they were poor. This is a difficult call to make and again I am glad it is for a small punt. I do however expect it to be close and at +6.5 I am interested in Los Pumas
Call: Argentina +6.5 at 9/10 for 1 unit
England v Australia
Is Cheika still employed? OK so let’s look at last week, Australia struggled to get out the blocks against a poor Italian team. I say poor, because they could not finish. Sure they had chances, but could not do anything with them.
England were simply poor v japan. I don’t care who you are, although this fixture was the only one I got right last week, a team like England should be winning comfortably, not scraping home by twenty in the last ten.
As much as I suggest I felt both England and Aussie were poor, the value still lies with England against an Australian team that has not found its rhythm again.
My call here is a perennial oposement of Australia until current management is shifted. Although this week there is almost no confidence.
Call: England -8.5 at 9/10 for 1 unit
Wales v South Africa
Wales impressed last week when running riot with the Tongans. The week before they barely scraped home v Australia, a game I expected them to win comfortably. I have managed to get South Africa wrong three times in a row.
This week I will hopefully not be getting them wrong again. I reckon Wales are not as strong as people including myself have thought and will have it tough v South Africa.
South Africa look the business this week. Perhaps it is primed for a big play at current levels, but I am not confident enough to spend more than one unit. I do believe it is the right way to go and the Boks price is full of value.
Call: South Africa on the board at 1/1 for 1 unit
Ireland v USA
Ireland take on USA this week in what can only be described as a one way game. Although the result is known, this game does have a decent enough handicap for the USA that does have my attention.
I won some money opposing the USA in the last year and a bit. Interestingly I had a go at the Samoan minus two weeks ago and came up short. USA have most certainly improved recently and this week should be no different.
Last week USA absolutely thumped Romania in Romania, that is a major cap for the Americans!
I am expecting a weaker Ireland line up and the USA should be pumped up for this one.
At USA +37.5 I am interested albeit for just a unit.
Call: USA +37.5 at 9/10 for 1 unit
France v Fiji
The Flying Fijians were simply rubbish in the second half v Scotland two weeks ago. Last week they were sublime beating Uruguay by 61pts. I did not watch the game, but it’s a great win for the South Sea Islanders.
This week although the Fijian coach has suggested they can cause an upset, I just don’t see them winning the game, but I do see a Fijian plus arriving. I do not have much confidence though
Call: Fiji +18.5 at 9/10 for 1 unit
Georgia v Tonga
Georgia v Tonga will be interesting. This game will more than likely not be on TV here in SA, I may be able to catch it on YouTube. At time of print there are no prices out.
Georgia were good for their eleven point loss v Italy, but the form guide is out and its clear Italy are not the goods.
The result that catches the eye is the Georgians beating Samoa by 8pts, but it is overshadowed by the USA beating them.
Tonga on the other hand thrashed the French Barbarians and then came up short against a spirited Welsh team. What we can get out of that game is that they fought back when down 21 v 3, but like a proper Tier Two team, they did not play the full eighty.
This age should be closer and whilst I suspect the Bookies will come out with a handicap of around Georgia -10.5 I would be interested in Tonga.
Call: Levels will determine my play:
- Back Georgia if their board price is 6/10 or bigger
- Back Tonga if their plus is +9.5 or more
- Any other price, they game can play without my money.
